Revel in the majesty of the moon and the joys of the harvest as the Children’s Museum of Houston celebrates the Vietnamese Mid-Autumn Festival.


Also known as Tet-Trung-Thu, this harvest event dates back over 3,000 years.

Join us as we pay tribute to children and Houston’s Vietnamese and Asian community with activities and live performances.


Don’t forget to check out the Museum’s Vietnamese exhibit “Dragons and Fairies - Exploring Viet Nam Through Folktales,” now through Nov. 2, 2014.

 Spotlight Performance – Lee’s Golden Dragon:  Lion dancers express joy and happiness and play an important role in celebrations.  Check out a live performance!


  • Mooncake Tasting:  To the moon and back.  Mooncakes are offered between friends or on family gatherings while celebrating the festival.  Sample some mooncake!


  • Moon Festival Mask:  Design and decorate your own traditional celebratory mask in Junktion.


  • Mid-Autumn Festival Lanterns:  Crease, pleat and fold yourself a traditional lantern in Junktion.
  • Vietnamese Fairy Wings:  Design fairy wings inspired by the legend of Au Co in Junktion.


  • Sponge Painted Moon:  Create the illusion of craters on a moon at Alexander Art Academy.


  • The Great Lunar Disappearing Act:  Use moon shadows for sun dials at Inventors’ Workshop.
